The photos are taken on Hvannadalshnúkur in May 2012, this is the highest mountain in Iceland and it is also on the biggest glacier in Europe. My aim with them is to show the interplay between man and nature where the harshness of the country and man's life create a certain trilogy - past, present and future. Difficulties of the past where the climbers are fighting with nature in cold and snow, the conscience of now, stopping and to look at the mountain - where we aim and where we want to be. Finally, the future where the direction is taken towards the top of the mountain overcoming the harsh nature and our limits without knowing if you reach the peak or not. The fourth picture the Angel is to protect and healing both the humans and the nature. We need to take care of the nature and our self so we can live together.
Hello my name is Díana. I'm a professional photographer from Iceland. I love photographing people, especially when making memories with them. Every summer for several years, Díana Júlíusdóttir has moved with her family to a lighthouse in Iceland’s Western Fjords. It is of the remotest places in Iceland: There is no telephone connection, no electricity and to reach the nearest village requires a long trek across high mountains.
The black-and-white prints have a timeless aura, as if they could have been shot decades or even a century ago. This timelessness is at the heart of Díana’s project, capturing the remoteness of the location and the slow rhythm of life away from the city and all its distractions.
